A family of six from the bushfire-ravaged NSW town of Batemans Bay has won a $50,000 Mitsubishi Triton as part of a Bankwest Stadium App promotion ahead of the first-ever concert at the venue featuring Aussie rock bands Cold Chisel and Hoodoo Gurus.
Andrew and Corina Cummins, who run a sports store in Batemans Bay, say they are battling to keep the family business viable due to the savage hit on the town’s summer holiday appeal and its tourism industry in the wake of bushfires that ripped through the South Coast early in the New Year.
However, the family’s mood has been lifted after winning a Mitsubishi Triton GLS 4×4 which they will now drive to Sydney to see Cold Chisel and Hoodoo Gurus headline the concert at Bankwest Stadium on Friday 24 January.
Andrew and Corina, who have four young children under the age of 10, run the popular SportsPower store in Batemans Bay. However, their normally bustling store is seeing too few of the customers who would usually buy sports shoes, summer sports clothing, surfboards and boogie boards because of the shortage of tourists.
Corina sheltered in the family home with her sister and seven children as the fires got to within 200m from their backdoor but say they were among the lucky ones who still have a home standing.
Like many others in bushfire-affected districts, the Cummins family was without power and with little food in the days following the fires, and they continue to help their community recover and rebuild.
“It has been a very hard and scary summer for everyone in the bushfire-affected areas and, as a family, we are very grateful to have won a Mitsubishi Triton . . . it’s such a fabulous prize,” Corina said today.
“We are big Cold Chisel fans and bought our tickets as soon as the concert was announced at Bankwest Stadium.
“When the fires hit we were not sure we were going to get to the concert, but the roads are now open and we can get through so we will be driving our new car to Bankwest Stadium and we are really looking forward to a night out in Sydney.”
Andrew and Corina will be joined by thousands of Rural Fire Service volunteers and their families at Bankwest Stadium after Minister for Sport Geoff Lee, MP, announced the donation of tickets as a “thank you” for their extraordinary service during the current bushfire crisis.
As part of their first ever outdoor summer tour, Cold Chisel will be joined at Bankwest Stadium by special guests Hoodoo Gurus, Birds of Tokyo and Busby Marou.
Good seats are still available for the Blood Moon Tour 2020 show at Bankwest Stadium on Friday 24 January via Ticketek here. Gates open at 4.30pm.
Fans attending the concert will be able to donate directly to the NSW Rural Fire Service and the official tour charity Foodbank, which has been providing relief for fire-affected communities. Cold Chisel has already pledged a six-figure sum to fire services and other support networks.
Bankwest Stadium offered up a major prize in conjunction with the launch of the Stadium App and SCORE rewards program.
Fans who downloaded the Bankwest Stadium App and joined SCORE by 8 December 2019 automatically went into the draw to win the Mitsubishi Triton GLS 4×4 valued at $47,880. Fans received more chances to win by scanning their SCORE card when purchasing food and beverages at the Stadium.
The draw took place on 9 December 2019. Andrew and Corina Cummins have today picked up their new vehicle from Clyde Mitsubishi in Batemans Bay after being confirmed as the lucky winners.
